Sunshine for Kids is a charity that supports children’s cancer care by providing positive group activities for children diagnosed with the disease. These group activities enable the children to give each other emotional support while uplifting their spirits and allow them to live like kids once again.
In February 2020, for example, the nonprofit brought together about a dozen kids from across the country and sponsored their week-long attendance of Mardi Gras World in New Orleans, Louisiana. The children took part in a tour of a swamp, sampled local delicacies, and even rode in the Krewe of Freret Saturday on Float 15.
The children, aged between 12 and 17, all met each other for the first time but bonded easily as they all faced similar health challenges. Through the fun, experiential activities that Sunshine for Kids organized, they got a much-needed break from their rigorous hospital routines, letting them enjoy normal kid activities.
